UCSB 06/07

Jeg vil lige dele noget med jer. Det er snart Halloween og det er en big thing i Isla Vista. Folk kommer tilrejsende fra det meste af Californien for at feste, hvilket giver anledning til visse logistiske og sikkerhedsmæssige overvejelser fra universitetets side. For at videregive et indtryk af festivitasens størrelse (det bliver sammenlignet med Mardi Grass i New Orleans), følger her uddrag af en email jeg modtog fra central hånd den anden dag:

Dear UCSB Student,

With Halloween approaching, my colleagues and I in the Division of
Student Affairs wanted to provide you with some important information that we hope will help you to stay safe and have fun during the Halloween weekend.

Halloween Safety Tips:
Keep it Local! Keep it Safe!
Will you be in Isla Vista for Halloween? If so, here's some
information to help you make safe choices.
- If you have a party, know who your guests are:
o Check your lease. Some of them have restrictions for
Halloween weekend, including no parties, no kegs, no
overnight guests.
o There are no overnight guests allowed in any of the UCSB
residence halls during Halloween weekend and on Halloween
night.
o Remember - students have said they want to Keep It Local!
so discourage out-of-town party guests
- If your friends have been drinking, check on them, and stay
with them if they need help.
- Don't leave a friend stranded. Call for a CSO escort at
893-2000.
- Know what's legal and what isn't (fines may vary due to
circumstances):
o Furnishing alcohol to a minor: $1000 - $3000 (x each minor
at the party!)
o Alcohol in a vehicle with a minor in the vehicle (even if
there is someone 21 or over, unless parent or guardian):
$1000 + license suspension if under 21 + possible 30-day
vehicle seizure
o Possession of an open container: $102.00- $500.00
o Minor in possession: $500 + l year license suspension
o Public intoxication: $650
o Possession of less than an ounce of marijuana: $100
o Under the Influence of a Controlled Substance carries a
mandatory 90 day jail sentence.
o Noise and festival ordinance violations: $144 to $300
Festival ordinance is in effect from 10/26 through 11/1 -
this means no live or recorded music can be heard outside
your apartment/house

- If it is determined that Isla Vista has become unsafe for the
public, then roads will be closed by the County and proof of
residency can be required for vehicle entry.
- To make it safer on Del Playa [<-- min vej...], all cars
parked on the street have to be off the street by noon on
Friday, October 27th.
- NO out-of-town visitors will be allowed to park on campus or in
local parking lots
- To keep traffic off of Del Playa and Sabado Tarde, police
barricades will be placed at the following intersections:

- A Search and Rescue unit will be set up at Camino Pescadero and
Trigo for emergency first aid needs.
- If you have an emergency, call 911.
- If you, or a friend, has been sexually assaulted, call the
Santa Barbara Rape Crisis Hotline at 564-3696 for free and
confidential assistance.

- Symptoms of alcohol poisoning:
o Person cannot be awakened.
o Cold, clammy, or bluish skin.
o Slow and/or irregular breathing.
o Vomiting while passed out.
- What to do:
o Turn the victim on his/her side to prevent choking in case
of vomiting.
o GET HELP AND CALL 911. This can save a life!
